Bikes

Explore our corner of Mount Desert Island at your leisure on one of our cruiser bikes. Southwest Harbor is home to some wonderful restaurants, delightful shops, and beautiful views that are even more enjoyable when you don’t have to worry about finding a parking spot for your car.

Croquet Court

For 43 years, The Claremont Hotel was home to The Claremont Classic, a spirited croquet tournament where players from all over the country squared off on our three on-site courts. This tradition lives on with a single court where the stakes aren’t nearly as high and the competition is decidedly less intense

Art Classes

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a piece of art is truly priceless—especially when you create it yourself under the instruction of our Artist in Residence. What better way to remember your visit to Southwest Harbor than a work of art of your own creation?

Croquet Club Game Room

At the end of a busy day or when the weather isn’t cooperating, our expansive game room is a wonderful place to unwind and match wits. From Apples to Apples to Zeus on the Loose, we have dozens of card, dice, and classic board games to choose from in a comfortable yet elegant space.

Botanica Spa | Opening July 1

Prepare your body and mind for an exceptional vacation experience with a relaxing massage, an invigorating reflexology session, or a soothing body treatment in one of our four massage rooms. Our skilled and experienced staff of massage therapists and aestheticians is at your service.

Garden Tours

You’ll learn all about optimal plant selection and placement as well as proper care and maintenance while getting an up-close and personal look at how our gardener handles the challenges of coastal weather.

Punch Bowl Parties

Get to know your fellow guests (and a few special guests we invite throughout the season) over complimentary cocktails served from traditional punch bowls. There’s no better way to unwind after an eventful day and prepare for the night ahead

The Gardens | July 1

Lovingly tended by our Head Gardener as a source of the freshest produce possible for our restaurants and fresh flowers for our Historic Main Hotel, our on-site farm is a delightful place for an afternoon stroll. Here you’ll also find our Artist in Residence who conducts a variety of classes throughout the summer to indulge your creativity. Check with guest services to learn about the latest workshops, schedule a tour, or inquire about reserving our garden dining shed for celebrations or family gatherings of up to eight guests.

Boat Moorings | Open June 15

With thirty feet of depth at the mouth of Somes Sound and wide-open spaces throughout its five-mile length, the waters beyond our private dock are ideal for vessels of all sizes. Registered guests arriving by boat will have access to boat moorings for $45/night. Please note, the moorings do not include launch service, so guests will need their own dinghy to row to the dock.
We also have relationships with a host of local marina service providers.

Celestial Lawn Parties

These breezy affairs featuring live music, passed hors d’oeuvres, food stations, and cash bars are worth planning your summer vacation around. Each party coincides with something special happening in the night sky to add even more excitement and intrigue. Each event features a unique specialty cocktail along with a local Maine beer or spirit you’re sure to love. Tickets are $50/person and include two complimentary specialty cocktails.
